Sad and Joyous Greetings from Anita,
The hole was dug months ago on our rocky hilltop, next to dachshund Bully. And when it was White Dog’s time, we wrapped him in his pink and blue quilt and gently laid him in the grave.
Our shovels of loose dirt returned him to the earth.
I am so glad I have the hope of Heaven when it is my turn! I expect I’ll see my old White Dog running again, alongside silly, nosy Bully both with tails wagging happily, through fields of flowers, joyous to show me around.
This “Passion” week we commemorate Jesus stunning triumph over death. The terrible cross, a hasty burial in a borrowed cave but then, an empty tomb…!
The astonishing Easter promise is that death has no hold on us.
Jesus disciples, although they had been warned, did not want to believe he had to die, especially on a cross.
They wanted to stay in his presence, revelling in His unearthly wisdom and shocking miracles. It seems fitting that The God of Love would be in the middle of a joyous wedding party changing water into wine, feeding thousands with a just a boys lunch, instantaneously healing both the deaf and blind along his path, even breathing life back into the dead!
So many amazing miracles, even the all pages of the bible could not hold the accounts.
Imagine being in the presence of the Wonderful Counseller, the Great Physician, God Himself with us!
For three short years, he revolutionized the world, so much so that even the calendar was altered by the perfect God/Man born into obscurity to dwell among us.
His life and death reset all of time, fulfilling ancient prophecy and transforming the Jewish temple and need for animal sacrifics to atone for sin, to BECOMING the sacrifice himself for our sinfulness.
The New Life as a follower of Christ, allows our bodies to become the “temple” and He can be alive in us!
I struggle to understand the depth and complexity of God’s ways. Like every human being I have doubt, it’s part of the human condition, but “Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” You can read that yourself in Hebrews 11:1.
I am no theologian, I’m just a frail human being stumbling along trying to follow Jesus. The bottom line is, I know I can trust in Jesus, to carry me through!
It’s as simple as that.
