You have another friend who delights in God's creation of you.... and your garden! Keep chronicling from your little patch of heaven. My garden still lays fallow. You are an encouragement.
Josette is a serious gardener. She plants two or three dozen different edible varieties in two raised bed gardens and a greenhouse. Our travels together have to work around times for planting and harvesting. She makes soup immediately after harvesting and freezes it in blocks. Thankfully, she doesn't have chickens or horses or she would never be able to leave for a month. I expect her to be here for April.
Longwood Gardens also has a fun Christmas sing-along. Check their site as the days get closer to the holiday if you don't have family/friends to spend it with.
Our garden still quietly lies under weed cloth waiting for fake Spring to end and real Spring to arrive. I have test-started the tiller in anticipation. Lots of struggle and sweat lie ahead for me, but the real work of gardening falls to my bride. She has sketched out plans for each row, some reduced area for green beans as we still have cupboards full from last season, a larger plot of potatoes, greens, tomatoes, and squash already consigned to their space at least on paper. She will wrest from the recalcitrant earth herbs and veggies to improve our life. And she will do it with gusto. Fresh greens from the garden always taste better than the kind purchased at a store.
Anita, your devotion to your "old dog" is special and rare. That old pooch has provided love and protection for so long he absolutely deserves to go out on his own terms. Making it as easy as possible is simply returning that love. I still miss my old pooch who died at my feet while saying goodbye. After all these years, my eyes still tear up as I type this memory. Too many opt for the vet's needle when caring becomes too much like work. I miss my pal.
Enjoyed your take on city visit as we lived in Terrace bc 8 miles out of town in a log home ny wife and I built. Partially off the grid , and when city friends came for a visit they didn’t pause to open their eyes and really see what was all arus in the forest. The smells, the sounds of the river and the joy of filling your lungs with fresh air.

Gardeners see possibilities where others just see dirt!
