Greetings from Anita!☀️
The talk of the town is all about the historic solar eclipse, happening on Monday across a huge swath of Mexico and the United States, crossing the border at Eagle Pass, Texas.
No irony there…
Fredericksburg is in the direct path and my fireman friend, Frank told me traffic will be backed up for hours this weekend as tourists flock to experience the once in a lifetime 6 minute sign in the skies!
There are several things lining up in the heavens simultaneously, with prophetic meaning.
Here is an interesting analyzation from an Old Testament biblical point of view. Genesis 1:14 tells us that God created the Sun, Moon and the Stars for light and for signs and for seasons, for days and for years.
I have never studied the original Hebrew feast days in light of the New Covenant in enough depth to comment. It is the tip of a fascinating and important iceberg for me. So many interesting things to learn!
Although the city population here is small and there are always tourists, this weekend is already booked to capacity and enterprising entrepreneurs are selling parking spots for $100 each with complementary eclipse glasses, naturally!
With traffic jamming the entire area, we’ve been warned, if you don't want to get caught up in it, stay home! We’ll just step outside for a clear view. If it’s cloudy, there will still be the eery experience of darkness in the middle of the day.
The plan is to get your groceries ahead of time and be prepared for the Internet to go down. Out here, internet service is sketchy at best and with so many extra people it could very well be overloaded. Cell phone circuits are also probably going to be busy since they sometimes are on weekends anyway.
On no! This will be the worst! Chuck will have to listen to me talk all day…. However, in a pinch, texts will often go through when a call won’t.
Emergency service personnel are on high alert because there's only a limited number of firetrucks and ambulances available to handle all the calls. They can’t move well in gridlock traffic either. Even on normal weekends, outside the city, it can take twenty very slow minutes for an ambulance response!
One sunny weekend, cruising along the four lane route to tiny Stonewall, out of the corner of my eye I was horrified to see a body fly into the air. It was a motorcycle accident and two women lay crumpled on the side of the road as we frantically dialed 911.
More than once.
Although some passing motorists rose to the occasion to help slow oncoming traffic and others prayed at the terrible scene, it was a great relief to hear the sirens approaching to take over with professional authority.
That’s just the way it is in rural areas. You are on your own in many ways.
We've been told to stay at home for the entire weekend to avoid massive traffic. A six to eight hour traffic jam, is not my idea of fun. I’ve had that experience after an earthquake and gigantic mudslide that shut down the entire Southern Pacific Coast Highway, a vital route into LA for two years.
Weather experts are also predicting this year to be the biggest hurricane season in many years. They already have 10 names picked out. For all of us in the South near the Gulf Coast, Florida and East Coast, we know the drill. No reason to wait until everyone else gets the word, start thinking about it now and grab supplies you know you’ll need.
All this has reminded me to stay prepared for anything, no matter where you are. Stock up on extra groceries, keep bottled water on hand, know where your flashlights are.
As always, don’t run on empty, keep some dollar bills in your pocket and have a wonderful weekend!
Any thoughts on the prophetic meaning of the eclipse?
I've studied the Hebrew feasts that point to Messiah. But I can't think of anything pertaining to the spiritual implications of a solar eclipse, except that the moon passes between two celestial bodies, and this reminds me of covenant with God. In the Abrahamic covenant, God the Creator, in the form of two symbols of His glory and justice, passed through the center of a sacrifice, split in two by Abram under the Father's direction, in order to make covenant with Abram, bringing promises dependent upon His sovereign will. Genesis 15:17 Something about the moon passing between two celestial bodies reminds me of God's covenant with His redeemed. I want always to be on His side of righteousness, hid with Christ in the Father. Just my thoughts you invited, Anita.
